Well, it looks like we’re getting into summer finally …. The temps are heating up and as I write this, I am hearing some big booms in the sky. But I think the colors of the lake and area around is just wonderful thanks to early rain. I hope you are enjoying it all as well.
I have attached a few photos of Garfield Lake’s 20th Annual Boat Parade showing a couple of boats all decked out for the fun afternoon. As noted, it’s the 20th time we have done this and judging by the boats that showed up, everyone enjoys it. We think we had 30 boats this year, taking a spin around the lake with a whole lot of friends and family sitting on their docks or shoreline waving to us. I got these from some friends, but I am sure our members have many more that you might want to share. If so, please send them to garfieldlakeassociation@gmail.com and we will post them. If we get enough, we might send out another short message with them. They also might provide some warmth this winter as we think about our summer.
If you have some fun photos of both the July 4th Boat Parade, the GLA Cake Picnic after the parade and/or other cool looking items around the lake please send them to us. As I noted, all of the GLA Team Leads emails are on the web site.
Also, the Social Committee is planning our 2nd Annual Potluck for Sunday, Aug. 25. Mark your calendars! More details to follow.
Have fun!! Be Safe and Thanks for being a member of the Garfield Lake Association. Remember our Mission: KEEP GARFIELD HEALTHY!!
This is just a quick message to remind you of our 6th Garfield Lake Association meeting coming up. It’s May 27th, 2023, at 10:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte. Our meeting will last no more than 1 hour so we can all get out and enjoy our Lake.
A couple of the items we will share with you are the status of our AIS Inspection at the Garfield Boat Landing. Thanks to several of our members and the Garfield Lake Ice Racers, we’ve come back to the inspection hours we had last year. We will give you more details on that at the meeting.
We also would like to share with the fishermen of our membership the status of how we hope to “deal with” the huge number of small northerns in our lake. We have some good historical data that we hope to convince the “right people” that something needs to be done. We would like our members’ input and experiences on this at the meeting.
We are going to take a vote to change our By Laws to allow those individuals who would like to be on the Garfield Board of Directors to “choose” the length of their term. We think more members would join us in the length of their “term” was from 1 to 3 years, at their choice, when they are elected. We are always looking for membership input and support and the easiest and most consistent way to do that is by becoming a Board member. So, our hope is our membership will “pass” the By Laws change to allow a 1-, 2- or 3-year term. We hope you think about it and join us.
We will also be distributing the fun Garfield Lake clothing and articles that our members purchased from the company of one of our members, Bee Seen Gear. We can tell you at the meeting more about that as we distribute those items.
We use this meeting to collect the annual membership fee of $30 for the 2023 season. Your checks can be made out to the Garfield Lake Association. These are the funds we use to “match” Lakeport township, Hart Lake Township, and the City of Laporte to help pay for increased AIS Boat Landing inspection.
We ask that you please join us at this 6h Annual Meeting!! It will held on May 27, at 10:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte. I promise you, the meeting will last no longer than one hour. We use it to get the comments and ideas our members have on ways to KEEP GARFIELD HEALTHY !!
This message is to remind you of the Garfield Lake Association’s 4th Annual Membership meeting this coming Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10:00 am to be held at The Woodshed bar/restaurant in Laporte. We will meet both “live, in-person” at The Woodshed and on the teleconferencing app ZOOM. We will send you that ZOOM link later this week.
I have attached to this message the agenda for that meeting and encourage you to take a look at it. We have attempted to give you an update of the several projects we are working on but if you have further questions you would like to address, please let us know. The meeting will last less than 90 minutes.
We are looking forward to seeing you either “live” or on ZOOM. Thanks for your support in Keeping Garfield Healthy!
Hi, this is a reminder that the GLA Annual Meeting is next Saturday, May 23rd at 10 AM and will be held using Zoom instead of meeting in person. Zoom is a popular video conferencing platform and you connect using 1) your computer, or 2) your smart phone or 3) just call in and listen (note this is long distance number).
If you are comfortable with using Zoom, then look for the meeting invitation with a link for the meeting on Thursday, May 21st.
If you are not comfortable with using Zoom and want to test it out, this message is for you! On this coming Thursday, May 21st, between 6 pm and 7 pm, we will host a meeting just so you can go through the steps to connect and test things out.
We will have some of the board members on this meeting if you want to visit or ask questions.
Here is the Invitation (in blue):
Garfield Lake Association is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

When you click ‘Join Zoom Meeting’ link above it will lead you through the steps to join the meeting, but I have listed below what happens:
If joining by computer:
This is the preferred way to join the meeting, Zoom will use the computer screen to show a live video feed and your speakers for you to listen to the audio. If your computer has a camera and microphone, it can also share live audio and video of you. By default for this meeting, that will be turned off for you. So when you click the link, here is what happens:
1. The link will open your web browser and go to the Zoom.us website.
2. It will prompt you to ‘Open Zoom Meetings?’, click on that button
3. If you have never used Zoom on your computer, it will ask you if you want to download and run Zoom, answer yes. Zoom installs it’s own program on your computer. Then you will see something like this, click ‘Run’ button to install this software. Note, you computer may prompt you to allow the program access to make changes to your computer, allow this. Also, this is a one time thing on your computer, the program will be installed for the next time you use Zoom.
4. Then the Zoom program will open and may prompt you to enter the password, and for this meeting it is 123456:
If joining by smartphone:
If using your smart phone to connect to the meeting you will need to load the Zoom app, it is available for Apple or Android. If joining the meeting from your phone, open this email and click on the link, this will open the Zoom app and connect you to the meeting. I will assume if you use your smartphone for things like this, you will know how to find the app and install it.
If joining by phone or call in:
If you only want to listen in and don’t care to use your computer or smartphone, you can call one of the numbers listed about and enter the Meeting ID and Password when prompted. Please note the numbers are not toll free numbers and if you pay for long distance you will be charged. Most cell phone plans don’t charge for long distance.
Help?
If would like me to ‘attempt’ to help you during this test meeting, I would be glad to try. You can call me on my cell phone number 763.370.2542, I will call you back if I am on the line as soon as I can.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to try to join this test meeting and the annual meeting. We will get back to in-person meetings after our current pandemic is a thing of the past, but will probably still offer Zoom as an alternative option.
The 2020 Garfield Lake Association meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held using video conferencing and the in-person meeting will NOT be held this year at the church.
We plan to present the meeting using ZOOM web conferencing software, which gives users three options to join the meeting, these will include:
